Amsterdam based photographer Viviane Sassen presents her work until 1st June at Nederlands Fotomuseum, Rotterdam. She shows UMBRA (Latin for shadow) as a large-scale installation
The museum on the exhibition: ‘UMBRA presents Sassen’s autonomous work in a kaleidoscopic exhibition in which shadow is often a metaphor for the human psyche. Anxiety and desire, and also imagination and illusion, intrigue and stimulate the spectator. The experience is reinforced by the creation of light-dark contrasts in space, where she makes use of video projections and mirrors to generate effects similar to those in her photos. With UMBRA, the Nederlands Fotomuseum explicitly wishes to provide scope for artistic experiment within photography, and to promote new angles of approach when investigating the shifting boundaries of documentary images.’
Julie van Damme from Euroconnection on working with Vivienne : ‘it is always super to facilitate Viviane’s art project UMBRA in Cape Town.’ Julie Van Damme-Lagoe will attend the ADC in Hamburg on 14 and 15 May in person and then travel to Berlin for one day. She told GoSee that she will be ‘discussing future film and photography projects there!’.
