HOTEL INTERNATIONAL •  HOTEL INTERNATIONAL exhibition project by Galerie Warhus Rittershaus, Cologne and Hotel marsil. We look forward to seeing you – a must-Go & See!

HOTEL INTERNATIONAL is an exhibition concept by Warhus Rittershaus, Cologne and Hotel Marsil, Cologne in cooperation with young galleries, artists, curators, publishers and writers.

From 22 - 24 November 2013 Hotel marsil will become an exhibition and event space for a three-day project dedicated to young contemporary art. Seven galleries from all over the world are invited to HOTEL INTERNATIONAL, in order to give one of their artists the chance to install their work in a guest room or hallway.

And the best thing is: you can sleep immersed in art! First come, first sleep. But take note: you can only get the room all to yourself from 10pm, before then there will be visitors walking around the rooms. But you can sleep until 12 noon, before the programme continues. If you book from Saturday to Sunday, you are also invited to the final gallerist dinner. Pasta, vino tinto…. Everything in our little marsil home. Any questions? Contact: hotel@marsil.de. So, book yourself in and support young gallerists and artists while you sleep!

HOTEL INTERNATIONAL aims to support a network of and interconnections between young artists from all disciplines and wants to mirror the flexibility, spontaneity and limitlessness of contemporary art. There are various programme points planned throughout the exhibition period over the weekend. Henning Strassburger will show his Hotel Paintings for the first time and René Stessl will be there with his legendary 1hr Restaurant.

On Friday evening (22.11.2013) the private view will start at 7pm, afterwards Cologne’s most beautiful hotel bar will be the place to be for a small get-together – and DJ team Funktastique will be supplying the soundtrack for the evening.

Saturday and Sunday afternoon René Stessl will cook a fine Austrian three course menu for the first two guests at his table in his mobile 1hourrestaurant. Stessl has cooked for and wowed guests and hosts all over the world – this art is both sociable and edible.

On both afternoons over the weekend, there will be a video screening, which was put together by four curators specifically for HOTEL INTERNATIONAL (Julia Höner, Gregor Jansen, Max Mayer and Moritz Wesseler).

Luisa Rittershaus told GoSee: ‘art in hotel rooms, foyer or the bar is completely normal. Art is displayed everywhere, over every bed and hallways. To distinguish itself from the ‘norm’ and the ‘everywhere’, a movement developed that looked for the exclusivity within the hotel scene in the art world. Neologisms such as ‘art hotel’, ‘Art´otel’ and ‘Art-Roomin-In’ sprang up and with them hotels throughout the world had their hotel rooms designed by fine artists.’

She continues: ‘a hotel as a format for art has also been interpreted further in the contemporary art scene. 2011 the ‘Dependent New York’ took place for the first time, an informal trade fair model, which forgoes white cubes in favour of furnished hotel rooms. HOTEL INTERNATIONAL is a similar concept, just smaller and without the trade fair aspect.

HOTEL INTERNATIONAL is a project that showcases the interconnectedness of a young art scene: gallerists, artists, curators and authors work together independently to produce an exhibition project that bundles international synergies. Hotel marsil is an established address for art and culture loving guests in the heart of Cologne and the two hosts Cyrus C. Halabian and Frank Schmitz are adventurous enough to participate in this exciting project.’ Adventurous? That’s music to our ears!

The intimate atmosphere of little marsil, which is usually adorned with art (predominantly photo art), makes space on the third weekend in November for work by a total of 15 artists and is looking forward to your visit! A booklet will be published to accompany the event in cooperation with ‘Verlag für zeitgenössische Beobachtung’ as well as young authors and critics. And yes, Frank and Cyrus will be there the whole time.
