BERLIN COMMERCIAL (formerly BFFF – Berlin Fashion Film Festival) just celebrated its second premiere under a new name at Haubentaucher in Berlin. Philipp Ulita, founder and organizer of the event, has set his sights on creating a platform where decision makers from agencies and production companies, established directors, camerapeople and up-and-coming talents of the industry can meet for a tête-à-tête.
The moderate number of visitors gave everyone the opportunity to mingle with other visitors personally. The light, summery flair was reminiscent of a beach party and was described by some visitors as “better than Cannes Lions”. Because the location, scenery and format gave everyone the relaxed feeling of being on vacation – the various items of the agenda, keynotes, screenings, panels, and workshops always sparked interest and inspired visitors with captivating discussions.
Different panels discussed the issues and challenges filmmakers face: Topics once again included the cooperation between producers and editors or the cooperation with agencies, problems and benefits. Also debated was the importance of storytelling in contrast to trends and brand history.
In addition to the panels, there were screenings which gave film production companies and individual producers the chance to share their stories, approach to new projects, and source of creativity with other advertisers and producers.
There were also workshops: e.g., an underwater film course in the pool or marketing speed dating. The final part of the program was an awards ceremony presenting prizes in categories such as fashion film, music video, animation, hair & make-up, or emerging talent. The prizes were awarded by five bathing beauties performing water ballet who fished the trophies out of the pool and gave them to the lucky winners. The grand finale was an after-show party with plenty of bubbly celebrating the winners and the festival. See the winners here: berlincommercial.awardsengine.com/winners
