Berlin has always been one for the arts. And the following weekend is going to offer even more to see and experience . . . the Gallery Weekend sees both fresh talents and established artists (click here for the programme) will be presenting their work. The exhibitions at AANDO FINE ART are always very inspiring.
The gallery presents ADORE sculptures by Korean artist OSANG GWON (*1974 in Seoul). The interplay between artistic and adverting visual language is the key aspect of his work. Gwon’s interest in the connection of depictional strategies from advertising and the arts becomes quite apparent in his ‘The Flat’ series.
On his quest for a contemporary form of visual expression for still lifes, Gwon developed his very own method: he uses ad pictures from high-gloss magazines which he fits on wire frames to create sculptures and subsequently photograph them.
The architectural nature of these two-dimensional images reflecting the glimmering world of fashion resemble mega cities: abundance, consumption and artificiality are the sign of the times.
Osang Gwon’s sculptures have already made their way into the collections of the National Museum of Contemporary Art Korea, the Leeum – Samsung Museum of Contemporary Art, the Universal Music Group and the Bruger Collection and are exhibited in the vicinities of the Doosan Gallert Seoul.
The opening night will take place in the presence of the artist on the 29th of April 2011.
