In their sail boot Malizia II, it was off to New York from Plymouth, England, for Greta Thunberg and her father. On 28 August, 2019, the climate activist arrived in New York and was welcomed by numerous sympathizers. She was greeted there by seventeen sail boots sent by the UN, each displaying one of the climate goals for sustainable development announced by the United Nations. There the environmental activist spoke to the assembly and met with world leaders, whom she – as could be expected – bravely stood up to.
The school strikes for the climate initiated by Greta have meanwhile grown to become the global “Fridays for Future” movement; millions of people all over the world have now committed to her, and our, common cause. The journey for Greta began when she started saving energy at home by shutting off lights wherever possible, when she refused to fly and finally decided to become vegan.
The young and focused Swedish heroine was portrayed by ANKE LUCKMANN for STERN magazine before her departure.
