“The film ‘Return’ was born from an exploration of how our relationships and family bring the ultimate meaning to our lives. Our protagonist is submerged in a nightmarish world where he is constantly chasing and running after a better reality, in which he keeps replaying memories of a simpler time with his partner, his muse, and his family. He lives in a constant turmoil of trying to return to a life before chaos. Replaying memories of their most sacred family moments, he keeps wishing he appreciated all the seemingly insignificant events. His anguish builds up and then reaches a breaking point, upon which the viewer is taken through a process of self-realization that what is most important during a crisis are the steady rhythmic beats of our relationships.
The film was shot as a passion project before the world as we know it was turned upside down. The post production direction has taken a few twists and turns over the past two months because we realized the film is incredibly relevant as a social commentary to the current world crisis and the collective challenge that has brought about so much change.” WE ARE CREATIVE – responsible for everything from production and editing to post supervision – says about the short film by Director Dillon BUIRSKI c/o WE ARE CREATIVE.

“BOY, the music video by SiphoTheGift is based on Sipho’s ideas and intention, and we were merely honored to make his vision come to life. That being said, he was interested and also excited by the idea of playing on this story or journey of the young boy, potentially growing up to be an artist, versus the power in subtle and raw performativity.” WE ARE CREATIVE tells us about the atmospheric music video by DOP Brandon BLIGHT.
SiphoTheGift about his song Boy, which was released in 2019 on his album INDIGO: “As a kid, I grew up without a father at home. I had many influences pulling me in different directions, but I had very few positive male influences in my life. I had to make tough choices about the kind of man I wanted to become amid all these challenges. Which voice would I listen to? Who would I choose to be?” Director: Emilie Badenhorst, styling Donna-Lee De Kock.
About – Brandon Blight was born in Cape Town, South Africa. He grew up filming BMX and skate videos, and that is where his love for cinematography started. He graduated at City Varsity in 2016, majoring in Cinematography and Lighting, with an Advanced Diploma. He was awarded Best Cinematographer in the final year of his studies. Since then, Brandon has worked and assisted on many productions, ranging from music videos, short films, documentaries, and social pieces. Brandon has a strong understanding of performance and always makes sure there is integrity and reason behind his camera movements. He believes one can never stop learning and is constantly searching for new ways to understand the incredible, ever-developing concept of lighting. Brandon has travelled through Africa and Europe shooting for brands such as Sanlam and Vans South Africa. As a versatile, creative and hands-on cinematographer, he is able to take on any project that comes his way and always puts quality first.

“We are_ so happy to announce that Director Michael Rodrigues has joined the we are_ family. We are_ so thrilled to have him on board and cannot wait to see where his creative journey takes him!” says WE ARE CREATIVE. We are very happy to present you the latest reel by the native of Johannesburg here on GoSee.
Having returned from London with a Master’s Degree in Film in 2016, Michael Rodrigues has used the past 4 years to passionately hone his artistic voice through the development of short films, music videos, documentaries, and commercial content. Along the way, Michael’s Nike spec film Together was nominated for best advertising film at the prestigious BAFTA-qualifying, Aesthetica Film Festival. In 2018, Michael ventured into the realm of fashion with his short film Attraction, which was selected by fashion festivals across the globe, most notably the Bokeh Fashion Film Festival, the Sarajevo Fashion Festival and the Fashion Film Festival Istanbul. This led Michael to directing striking visual campaigns for Pierre Cardin and Europa Art in 2019, where he began crafting a tongue-in-cheek approach inspired by films from the French New Wave.
Michael’s latest passion project Plastic Kids, a music video for The Tazers, was selected as one of the Best Music Videos of 2019 by Texx and the City. It was also nominated for Best Music Video at the Jozi Film Festival and Moscow Shorts Film Festival.
